These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Layl: Quran Memorization (“Layl,” “the app”). Layl is developed and operated by Al Hidayah Apps, an individual developer operating as a sole proprietorship based in New York, United States — not a separately incorporated company. By downloading or using Layl, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Using Layl
Layl provides Quran text, audio recitation, translations, memorization tools, and sleep features for personal, non-commercial use. The memorization courses for Al-Fatihah and the final four surahs are free. Other courses and features identified as Premium in the app require Layl Premium. Available features and subscription pricing are shown before purchase. Lessons are self paced; quiz results and marked completion do not certify memorization or recitation accuracy.
We’ve made every effort to source accurate Quranic text, translations, and recitations. Translations are provided as a study aid and, like any translation, cannot fully capture the meaning of the original Arabic. Layl is a study and memorization tool, not a substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar, and we make no warranty as to the religious or scholarly authority of any content presented.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be able to form a binding contract to use Layl. Reading, streaming recitation, and free memorization courses are available without an account. A Layl account is required to purchase, restore, or use Premium and to sync your library and progress. If you choose to sign in, you’re responsible for keeping access to your email, password (if used), Apple Account, or Google Account secure, and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate information and may not use Layl to violate any applicable law.
3. Layl Premium (Subscriptions)
Layl Premium is offered as auto-renewing subscriptions (Monthly and Yearly) through Apple’s App Store, subject to Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions in addition to these Terms:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to.
- Management and cancellation. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your device’s App Store account settings. Deleting the app or your Layl account does not cancel your subscription — you must cancel through the App Store. Premium purchases are billed through your Apple Account and linked to the Layl account signed in when you subscribe. To restore access, use the same Apple Account and Layl account. Contact support if you need help with an account-linked purchase.
- Refunds are handled by Apple according to Apple’s own policies. As the developer, we do not process payments and cannot issue refunds directly.
- Price changes. If we change subscription pricing, we’ll provide notice as required by the App Store, and any change applies only to future billing periods, not a period you’ve already paid for.
4. Your Content and Your Right to Delete It
Bookmarks, playlists, favorites, and progress data you create are yours. If you sync them through your Layl account, that data is used only to provide the sync feature back to you — Layl has no feature for sharing this content with other users, and we do not use it for any other purpose.
You can permanently delete this data yourself at any time, directly in the app, without contacting us:
- Settings → Data privacy control → “Delete my data” erases bookmarks, favorites, playlists, and practice data on this device and, when signed in, from our servers after the server confirms the request. Your account and downloads are kept. Offline requests may remain pending until a connection is available.
- Settings → Data privacy control → “Delete account” removes your account and its synced library and practice history from our servers. Data already stored on your device is kept.
Both actions require a two-step confirmation and, once completed, cannot be undone by us or by you.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the app’s software, audio, or text content for redistribution outside of normal personal use;
- Use Layl to violate any applicable law or the rights of any third party;
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to our servers or any other user’s account or data;
- Use any automated system to access Layl in a manner that sends more requests than a human could reasonably produce.
We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you’ve violated this section.
6. Intellectual Property
The Quranic text itself is in the public domain and not owned by us. Translations, audio recitations, app design, source code, and the Layl name and branding are owned by or licensed to Al Hidayah Apps and may not be extracted, redistributed, or used commercially without our prior written permission.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
LAYL IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT LAYL WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT ANY CONTENT WITHIN THE APP IS COMPLETE, ACCURATE, OR RELIGIOUSLY AUTHORITATIVE.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AL HIDAYAH APPS AND ITS DEVELOPER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE LAYL, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO LAYL IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Al Hidayah Apps harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of Layl.
10. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Layl will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section limits any consumer protection rights you may have under the mandatory laws of your country of residence.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to Layl’s account-based features if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the app, or delete your account using the in-app tools described in Section 4, at any time.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Layl after a change takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Al Hidayah Apps regarding Layl.
